GID Club

IIPM leads by example when it comes to Corporate Social Responsibility. IIPM’s CSR initiative is the world’s largest CSR initiative undertaken by any B-School globally. All IIPM students compulsorily as a part of their programme, have to spend two weeks working for GIDF in various slums/villages of India. Therefore just like IIPM students are given the No 1 global exposure amongst all B-Schools in India, they are also given the No 1 social work exposure in India. The institution has also been ranked no.1 in corporate social responsibility.

With the growing number of cases related to physical violence against women there is a rise of insecurity amongst them especially after the 16th December incident last year. And the worst part of it is that, we are still not prepared enough to protect ourselves from such ghastly crimes.
Therefore GID Club at IIPM Delhi had recently introduced a workshop on self defense for its students just in order to make them more aware and also help them improve their safety. For this we had invited national & international level taekwondo trainers from the South District Taekwondo Association. Mrs. Jyoti Nagpal (4th Dan black belt - a national & international player. She is also the Technical Director of South District & an international referee) and her team who have been conducting numerous such workshops focusing on self defense for women, had come to show us the basic techniques which could be used in case a person faces an unforeseen situation in their day to day life.
They started by first demonstrating the ways a girl can use objects that are readily available, such as a hand bag, pen, book or even her mobile phone as a weapon to protect herself if she faces any such situation. Not only that, they also showed techniques of how to protect oneself when we are threatened by a group of people be it a girl or a boy. In the end, they also invited some of the girls to come ahead and demonstrate whatever was taught to them to ensure that they learnt the technique well.
At last, Prof. Angshuman Paul gave a vote of thanks to the guests and also presented them the guest of honor trophy.

The youth has started showing their inclination towards the leaders who were truly devoted in actual attainment of freedom in a fruitful way. 15 students from IIPM Delhi spoke about the unsung freedom fighters at India Gate on August 13, 2012. This event was conducted in by the GID & Rhetorix Club of IIPM, New Delhi. Despite the challenges of motherly Earth in the form of rain and thunder, the students spoke nonstop without any hesitation in order to enlighten the struggle and achievement of those fighters.
Freedom fighter is another term for those engaged in a struggle to achieve the desired objectives of a nation. Few fighters like Mahatma Gandhi in India are highlighted. But there are many other fighters who devoted their entire lives to attain the desired freedom in India. These students spoke continuously without any resistance in order to open the eyes of other students and they came to a great positive response in the end.

On the eve of ‘Environment Day’ this year, GID club from IIPM Delhi joined hands with international NGO’s like PETA and FIAPO, who are working for animal rights. GID Club has done several such workshops in the past and since the theme for the 2nd GID Week this time is Environment, so what better to start with than learning how to care for animals. The workshop was headed by Gaurav Jain, a sincere volunteer who has been associated with PETA for the past 15years.
The workshop threw light on issues such like animals kept in unhygienic conditions, stray dogs being ill-treated etc. Not only had this they even discussed a new concept called “VEGANISM” which is a practice of abstaining from the use of animal products. The GID club at IIPM has been formed wherein students get a chance to believe in self –actualization. This is where they work to make a difference in the life of others. The kind of activities we take up requires uncommon dedication to strive for social reform and that is exactly what the members of this club excel at.
Our first event for the year was organized in the Delhi campus on the 13th of February, 2012 and was coined as – Living To Put Up A Smile. Where our motive was to bring about a smile on the little cherubic faces that otherwise don’t have many reasons to smile. ACM GIDF, the foundation behind this club has been implementing various programmes in the field of education, livelihood, health & environment. Through its educational initiatives, they have been working for the welfare of children belonging to the vulnerable section of the society. Therefore we had invited the pre-schoolers to the campus where the IIPM students had organized a fun day for them and let love spread with the vote of humanity and peace, on the eve of Valentines Day.
The event started with the children being welcomed to the venue with balloons. Refreshments prepared by the students itself was distributed amongst our little guests. An interactive session on Origami was conducted by Prof. Angshuman Paul followed by a play performed by the students. The first play was about a donkey and his animal friends while the next was about Charlie Chaplin, Mickey Mouse and baby elephant who taught the children a lesson on following the path of truthfulness.
The children seemed very excited and happy during the whole event and even actively participated in all the games like sack race, hit & drop, spoon race and tug of war that were organized for them. Most of the students also seemed attracted to the tattoo station where they got beautiful designs made on their wrists. Even the music played during the event like the title track of Mowgli and others rhymes etc. perfectly matched the theme of the event. Lunch was served to the children which also included a small quiz competition. The day was called off once the prizes were given away to the winners and gifts were distributed to each and every child as a token of appreciation on behalf of the students. Not only that, hand made gifts items were presented to the teachers who has accompanied the children on that day.
