Empowerment of Women through Self
Help Groups in Mumbai |
| GIDF promotes empowerment and livelihood programmes for the economically deprived sections of the society. In this regard, two SHGs from different communities were provided orientation in Mumbai on May 2007, where the purpose of SGHs and how its can lead to the overall development of the family was discussed. Doubts and misconceptions about forming SHGs groups were dealt with and follow up training and orientation will take place in the coming months. |

We train our community workers on various issues , with the primary objective of building their capacities and helping them perform better.On 28th may, 2007 we conducted a workshop on the process of ‘Conducting Community Survey’ in Madanpur Khadar area of Delhi, and was attended by 26 members from all over Delhi.

BECOMING A PART OF ‘VAN SCHOOL’
INITIATIVE IN CHENNAI |
GIDF in its endeavor to make its students a part of the formal education system, have successfully become a part of the ‘Van School Initiative’ in Chennai, which is a government aided mobile school providing pick and drop facility between the child’s residence and the school. Other facilities like proper education, books and uniforms are also provided to the students free of cost. Through this initiative GIDF students will become a part of the formal education system, which is important for pursuing higher education and acquiring employment. |

| A residential hostel for the underprivileged boys is being constructed in Madhya Pradesh, which will cater to the lodging needs of the these boys hailing from far off interior villages. The residential hostel also has computer learning facility and will aim at incorporating other educational programs in the near future. |

| GIVING OPPORTUNITY TO EXPRESS. |
| GIDF centres are like families where children are given ample opportunities to express themselves, learn and love each other. Based on the views expressed by the children of a Mumbai based TARA centre a children party was organized on 2nd May, 2007 . The event was completely managed and organized by the children under the guidance of the teachers, the prime objective of which was to develop a sense of team work among the students and build their confidence, whilst making the centre popular amongst the non TARA children who were also a part of this get together. |

| Apart from regular activities at TARA of Delhi, the pre-education centres of GIDF; the children were taken to, ‘Shankar's International Dolls Museum’. The activity was completely recreational with the objectives of making them aware about the different dolls found across the globe. Set up by the renowned political cartoonist, K. Shankar Pillai (1902-1989), the Museum has one of the largest collections of costume dolls anywhere in the world. The children of TARA centers appreciated the visit to the dolls museum which was both a delightful and educational experience for them. |

Our educational initiatives are constantly woven with an element of creativity and innovation, helping children learn easily with zeal. Moving forward on these lines we have made ‘ Moviducation’,(combination of movies and education) an integral part of our educational program and Movies like Finding Nemo (Hindi Translation), UNICEF Meena film Murgiyon ki Ginti & Aam ka Batwaran were screened for TARA (a GIDF pre-education centre) children of Mumbai. |

| Free health checkup for the underprivileged in Banglore. |
| ACM GIDF organizes various health camps in its project areas on regular basis with the objective of promotion of health, prevention of diseases, early diagnosis, treatment, follow up of diseases, facilitating the exposure of community to specialist doctors and health services. These health camps also aim in creating awareness of communicable diseases and their prevention. In this context, GIDF Bangalore,on 16th May,2007 organized a health camp with OBG and general health check up facilities in association with Humanitarian Hands Trust in Siddhartha Colony. In total, 192 people benefited from the camp. |

| PULSE POLIO IMMUNISATION |

| Pulse Polio Immunisation program in Delhi. |
In association with Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Delhi, GIDF facilitated the immunization of 736 children with vaccination shots on 20th May,2007 in areas viz. Madan Pur Khadar, Okhla Phase I and Phase II. Among the beneficiaries, 430 were boys and 306 were girls.

| SENSITISATION AGAINST THE USE OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS. |
| GIDF held a sensitisation workshop for community health workers representing various civil society bodies and local social institutions on 5th May 2007. The objective of the workshop was to educate these health workers about the detrimental effect of tobacco products and empower them to carry this sensitization drive back to the community level where they work and contribute in the greater cause of building a healthy nation. |

| Disabilty is a cause of major consern to India and any fom of disability leads to decline in human resource of a country, further exacerbating poverty in the society.Working towards the cause of disability GIDF Madhya Pradesh on 1st April,2007, provided Tri-cycles to many physically challenged people in Guna district of Madhya Pradesh, the objective of which was to build their confidence and make them self-dependent. |

| We, are glad to inform you of our upcoming Volunteer Involvement Program ‘Karma Mitra’ which seeks to promote, encourage, develop, and facilitate meaningful learning experiences amongst individuals on an ongoing basis, with the aim of building stronger and humbler societies, where poor are not just merely reduced to statistics but where there are no poor at all.
