AUROBINDO CHAUDHURI MEMORIAL
GREAT INDIAN DREAM FOUNDATION
Karmani Hite is a combination of two Sanskrit words; ‘karmani’ means in action and ‘hite’ means in welfare work. So the phrase Karmani Hite means to work for the social welfare.

Advancing Knowledge, Inspiring Minds.

A School a week campaign!

We at ACM GIDF firmly believe that besides health, education is the only asset that a nation can provide to its citizens. Despite the low cost involved in providing education at the primary and secondary level, the current trend in India is not impressive and the vision of a literate India, seems difficult to be realized. Taking forward the task of making India entirely literate ACM GIDF is glad to Inform its supporters and all the concerned citizens of India about the launch of the
‘A Week a School Campaign’ which aims to establish 52 schools around Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad and Bangalore in the year 2007-08. To know more about this campaign and contribute kindly visit www.gidf.org or write to us at care@gidf.org

We aim at holistic development
of a child
The Pre Schools of ACM GIDFs a hub of child education, continuously involving creative techniques and process to make education more enjoyable and interesting. On 27th August 2007, a special session was conducted at our Kothalchavadi Tara centre, in Chennai and was preceded over by Mr Mosses from CHES. The Objective of the session was to have an orientation on how to assist less responsive, and introvert children in active participation of the child centre activities. ACM GIDF follows child centric and participatory approach in its centres.

The techniques used by Mr Mosses were extremely useful and by the end of the day all nine children attending the session turned up to be Mr. Mosses’s fans.

Mainstreaming NFE Students to Formal Education system
ACM GIDF’s Non Formal Education ( NFE) centers serve the primary objective of inculcating interest in education amongst the adolescents, especially the school dropouts. Working toward this objective we organized two school visits on 22nd August, 2007 for adolescent Girls who were interested who were interested in taking up formal education. The school visits were primarily focused on learning the process of appearing in 10th exam.
Five girls along with two GIDF staff visited Awami Urdu School and Anjuman Urdu School in Mumbai. The staff of these two schools explained them the process of appearing for the 10th exams and gave them valuable suggestions. After this visit the girls decided that this year they would study for the 10th Exam.

Endeavor towards Capacity building.
In ACM GIDF we believe that a knowledgeable and efficient staff is the overall strength of any organization, and that staff should be trained enough to meet the ever emerging challenges in work.

To help the ACM GIDF’s Early child development staff meets the growing challenges of work, a national workshop was organized from 1st to 2nd August 2007, in New Delhi. The Objective of the workshop was to give the staff a complete idea of the ECD program and discuss the emerging trends and challenges in this area of activity.
Meeting the health needs of the society
Mobile health van Initiative   Our efforts towards reducing HIV/AIDS : Project Ehssas

ACM GIDFs health initiatives are focused on meeting the health needs of the underprivileged section of the society. It is generally seen that many village communities of India suffer from lack of proper health facilities and road connectivity with urban centers which have health care facilities.

In this context ACM GIDF has been operating mobile health vans in the remote villages of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. In the month of August 2007, our health van reached out to 98 needy patients from 10 villages of Madhya Pradesh.

The diagnosis revealed that many people were suffering from headache, cough and cold, Malaria, skin infection, Anemia, STD, Diarrhea and Asthma. Basic medicines have been provided to the patients and severe cases were referred to hospitals.

Meeting the critical needs of HIV/AIDS prevention is what project Ehssas is all about. Understanding the psycho-social problem of creating awareness and discussing the causes of HIV/AIDS, we try to meet the specific needs of the target communities in their own unique way, however with the only objective of creating awareness about the disease checking its spread.

In the month of August 2007, we identified a high risk group community in the village of Sagar Barkhedi and successfully formed a youth group from that community. The idea behind forming such groups is to help the group members as well as their community, reduce the risk of being infected by HIV/AIDS. The group members also act as community mobilizers and disseminate information about safe sex practices and other preventive measures.

Eye check up camp
On 13th and 14th of August 2007 an eye check up camp was organized for the children of Nargis Dutt colony, in Mumbai. This eye check up camp was jointly organized by ACM GIDF ,IIPM Mumbai and Sigma Hospital.

The objective of the camp was to determine the status of the eye sight of the children living in the Nargis Dutt colony and provide appropriate medication and advice to the needy. A total of 103 children were diagnosed inside a fully furnished health bus with all the requisite equipments. Though most of the children had normal eye sight they were advised about better eye care and three children with eye sight problem will be provided free spectacles.

Providing opportunities for better livelihood.

Expanding our SHG Network   Empowering the underprivileged urban youth
In the month of August 2007, were able to extend our SHG network to four new villages of M.P., taking the total number of villages with GIDF’s SHGs to 19. In these new villages the harijans and the tribal community will be targeted , as their socio-economic condition is not very good.
Other then this we have also formed nine new SHG’s in the villages of Awan, chadanbhent, Khatibada, Bandargada, Sagarbarkhedi and Bhula.
One of the biggest challenges facing development agencies like GIDF today is how it can assist large numbers of people in the country to have a meaningful livelihood which sustains them and ensures they can live with dignity and hope for the future. To meet this challenge GIDF has initiated a Skills Training Programme in Madan Pur Khadar. Livelihood programme in Delhi is following an intensive and extensive strategy in promotion approach. The extensive strategy will be to cover all poor and very poor households through formation of women SHGs. This will help poor families in mobilizing working capital needs and will include building upon the existing assets of the family.

Working towards meeting this objective, a Skills training centre focused on urban underprivileged youths has been initiated in Madan Pur Khadar Area of Delhi. The first step is to provide them a speaking English course, so that they can improve their communication skills as per the market needs. These youth after acquiring other requisite training , will be linked to the growing employment market of India , which will finally help them rise in society.

Skill based Training for Women
On 20th August a meeting on skill based training was facilitated at Nargis Dutt Nagar, where 8 women members took part. The meeting involved discussion and plan of action regarding a product making training which will be organized in collaboration with. During the meeting it was decided that, getting involved is such activity would be beneficial only if the Group is bigger , and that the women would first focus on increasing the size of their SHG.

Celebrating Indian Independence Day

All ACM GIDFs centers across India celebrated Independence day with great zeal and devotion. Various cultural and extra curricular activities were organized on the day. But GIDF Mumbai made the occasion special by organizing program called ‘UTSAV’ on 14th of August, 2007. The objective of the event was to strengthen the feeling of patriotism amongst the children.

A series of workshops were organized with the children in which Rakhi making, Greeting cards designing, book marks making, and candle decoration were taught to the children. On the event day an exhibition was organised where posters and stories of freedom fighters was put on display and the itineraries prepared by the children was put for sale.
