| A School a week campaign! |
| |
We at ACM GIDF firmly believe that besides health, education is the only asset that a nation can provide to its citizens. Despite the low cost involved in providing education at the primary and secondary level, the current trend in India is not impressive and the vision of a literate India, seems difficult to be realized. Taking forward the task of making India entirely literate ACM GIDF is glad to Inform its supporters and all the concerned citizens of India about the launch of the
‘A Week a School Campaign’ which aims to establish 52 schools around Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad and Bangalore in the year 2007-08. To know more about this campaign and contribute kindly visit www.gidf.org or write to us at care@gidf.org |

| Rooting deeper ways to child development:
The children carnival |
We recognize education as the main tool that empowers individuals to make informed choices, resist oppression & claim their rights, besides opening new possibilities & opportunities for themselves. ACM GIDF has a very comprehensive education programme as per the developmental age of children and socio-economic milieu under which they exist which aims to provide equal opportunity for overall development. |
|
In the month of July GIDF Delhi organized a seven day carnival for children of various centres in Delhi. The carnival started on 9th July, 2007 and was designed to meet the creative as well as other developmental needs of the children and to give expression to their artistic abilities.
Activities like painting, crafting, clay modeling, flower making, gardening ,yoga, hand printing etc, along with outdoor games were conducted to help the children realize their abilities and induce confidence within them. |

| |
| Orienting parents on better child care. |
| Our education centres, other then providing non formal education also train and educate parents on better parenting issues and other necessities of the child. On July 2007, GIDF Mumbai conducted a parent meet where issues of children health and education were discussed. Parents were cautioned against children having junk food as these type of food usually causes physical complications in children and lack nutritional value. As most of the children belong to uneducated or undereducated parents, the need of educating the parent becomes more important , so that they are better prepared to meet the various needs of their child. |

|
| Capacity building of the staff. |
ACM GIDF believes in empowering its staff through skills, trainings, knowledge and information. In this context, two educators from Delhi’s TARA centres were given a week long training in ‘Art & Craft’ organized by National Museum New Delhi last month.
The training enhanced the perspective of the educators on skills for art and craft and how to make it a regular and important feature of the child development process. |

| Public Demonstration for ‘Right to Education Bill’. |
ACM GIDF’s one of the core activity is to promote and provide education, and taking this work forward GIDF actively took part in the ‘signature campaign’, organized by Maharashtra Rajya Shikshan Hakka Abhiyan on 1st and 2nd of June 2007, in Mumbai.
As a follow up activity a dharna was organized by Maharashtra Rajya Shikshan Hakka Abhiyan, on 24th July 2007, at Azad Maidan CST Mumbai, where GIDF’s Mumbai Team actively took part. A total of 171 participants from 16 organizations came together demanding a law regarding education by Central Government for the state and taking up the issue of ‘The Right to education Bill 2005’ in the monsoon session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. The Dharna was also aimed at disseminating information on the ‘ Right to education Bill’ and creating awareness about free and qualitative education for all under the age group of 0 to 6 years through slogans and songs composed on education, which were effectively delivered by the dharna participants. |

| Reaching out to the unreachable and promoting reproductive child health: |
|
Meeting the health needs of the village communities. |
Under our Jagruti project we lays a special emphasis on the promotion of maternal and child health and gives importance on improving neonatal care at all levels including hospitals, homes and community so as to reduce the infant mortality rate.
Working towards expanding our work and reach in the interiors of the villages we have expanded the Jagruti project to four new villages in MP i.e. Sapera Basti, Padar khedi, Bhola pura and Kakvasa in the month of July taking the total number of targeted villages in MP to 11 . Further our Female facilitator conducted four Vaccination camps for Mothers and children in four different villages of MP on 24th, 27th, 29th and 30th July 2007.
Project Jagruti also focuses on capacity building and awareness generation of the village communities regarding reproductive health. Working on these lines GIDF formed a new group of adolescent girls and conducted a session on puberty and biological changes with them. |
Through our ‘Mobile Outreach Programme’ we reach out to the communities residing in the remote and inaccessible parts of the country and deliver quality healthcare services to these less privileged sections of the society at their doorstep.
In the month of July our team conducted 12 health camps in the villages of Mamrej pur, Sehnagra, Khan pur, Banke purva, Kanno, Pata, Vasundhra Rehab. Colony, Parvaha, Sehud, Dev Rai Ka Purva and Phaphund in Uttar Pradesh.
Diagnosis of the patients in these villages revealed that 226 people are suffering from respiratory tract infection, 78 people are suffering from Gastritis, 176 from diarrhoea,41 women are suffering from Gynecological problems, 91 had eye related problems, and 83 people are suffering from Osteoarthritis.
Based on the diagnosis , the patients were prescribed medicines and several cases were referred to the Hospitals. |

| Expanding the HIV / AIDS prevention efforts through Project Ehsaas. |
We continuously endeavor to bring in more and more needy and deprived people under our influence of work and empower them to lead a healthy and dignified life. In the process of reaching out to the high risk group people and communities we have initiated our HIV / AIDS awareness generation and protection activities in the village of ‘Samarbarkhed’ in MP. This village has high number of sex workers, which brings in clients from the surrounding villages thus exposing a lot of people to the risk of HIV infection.
Our plan for HIV /AIDS prevention and protection, in this village is to promote safe sex practice, as the Sex workers are not in a position to give up the profession due to the lack of alternate income generating activity. We further plan to organize these sex workers into SHGs which will provide us a continuous interaction opportunity with the clientele groups. |

These training centers have picked very well and currently 33 ladies are under going training in Kanhai and 23 ladies in Kuri khera. | Empowering communities through micro-finance. |
A majority of the poor people especially women have insecure livelihoods and GIDF Self Help groups are created so that these rural women are incorporated into the developmental process by undertaking an economic activity suited to their skills and resources. Empowering and promoting women leadership in villages and urban slums through seminars, trainings, rallies, legal aid and small business loans is one of our main priorities.
With our ever growing network of SHGs which total at 28 currently and expand over 11 villages of Madhya Pradesh, GIDF is sincerely working towards increasing its SHGs to 120 by this years end and successfully linking them with the financial institutions and assist the SHG members in getting loans to initiate Income generation activities and make them self reliant. |
