Jai Hind Thakur: Return to Confidence, (Bhopal)

In all 22 years of his life, Jai Hind Thakur has faced all possible aspects of poverty. His father, a vegetable seller, struggled to make ends meet for him and his two younger brothers. His mother suffered from breathing problems. They lost their only source of sustenance, their ancestral farmland, to a family feud. Very early in life, Jai Hind understood that he had no option but to find ways and means to support his family as an earning member. His education till class 12 wasn’t of much help – because all that his locality had on offer was manual labour, and even in that area, there were more people willing to work in comparison to actual work available. An exasperated Jai Hind started selling vegetables, but even that didn’t help much.

His life took a sudden positive turn when, in a village meeting, he came to know about the Special SGSY project by ACM GIDF, meant for BPL youth. He was always keen to learn computers, and this was almost a godsend opportunity for him. He got further encouraged when he visited our Sagar Centre, 21 kilometers from his village. After he joined the course he created a special place for himself in his class due to his hard-working and humble nature. Teachers liked him a lot, and always gave him special attention. It took Jai Hind four months to complete his course.

Soon afterwards, he was selected in a campus placement and landed a job with a big company - Virgo Soft Tech Ltd. from Bhopal. The company specializes in making online software for Aadhar card, Population record register, Public Distribution System etc. His specific responsibilities are filling online application forms for the Population record register, PDS Ration Cards etc in block and village levels, and preparing a daily report for his district level supervisor. For Jai Hind, this was not just a job to earn money but also a matter of great prestige. His monthly earning is Rs. 6600 /- with which he is now supporting his family.
