Choti Lal, (Rajasthan)

Both parents of Choti Lal Mali are daily wage labourers, and their consolidated annual income doesn’t reach beyond 15,000 rupees. Needless to say, that was not enough for a family of six. Being the eldest of four siblings, Choti Lal understood his responsibility. He knew he had to share the burden of his parents and somehow augment his family income. What he didn’t know was how that would be possible.

Just when everything seemed bleak in his back of the beyond village Dhani Shyampura in the Bassi tehsil of Jaipur district, Rajasthan, Choti Lal came to know of ACM GIDF’s vocational training programs under the special SGSY scheme. A two month course in retail marketing changed his destiny.

Initially shy and reticent in nature, Choti Ram now handles a multitude of clients at the Relience Fresh outlet where he landed a job after the completion of the course. The fact that he was one of the most attentive and regular students in his batch helped, his employers are quite happy with his performance.

Today, a confident Choti Ram has started contributing to his family income. Along with his job, he is also pursuing his graduation, and is determined to help his younger brothers and sister continue their education.
