Tamon Mohali: Tryst With Life, (Assam)

Tamon Mohali never ever imagined in his wildest dreams that he will land up a job with Hindustan Lever. Hailing from a backward tribal community, he stayed with his family in Assam’s Samdang Tea Estate, where his father was a worker in the local tea factory. Lack of resources forced Tamon to quit studies after class nine.

His father, however, was in constant lookout for opportunities that would give his son a better than his own. He came to know about the ACM GIDF Vocational Training Centre at Hapjan. After verification and subsequent interview Tamon was selected for training in the Industrial Electrical course. From then onwards there was no looking back.

Tamon, a sincere student and fast learner, was very good in the practical classes and loved his work. A regular student, he successfully completed the training in Cables and Industrial Equipments. Soon afterwards, he landed a job as a DG Operator in Hindustan Unilever Ltd. Hansara, and started earning Rs.5300 per month. He is happy to have joined a stable company that has a sizable presence in the region, giving employment to around 5000 workers from Tinsukia and the neighbouring areas.

He is now supporting his family and securing his own future as well. Although he is happy with his present job working nine to ten hours a day, he also wishes to complete his formal education as soon as he could spare some time for it. ACM GIDF has transformed his life, and he is grateful for it.
